Cala learns your household's hot water habits and adjusts its heating to match, so you don't have to set anything. Here's what happens in the first month and what you'll see in the app.
The first 30 days
Cala takes about 30 days to learn how your home uses hot water. During that time it heats to the hot water capacity chosen when your Cala was set up: NORMAL CAPACITY, HIGH CAPACITY or EXTRA HIGH CAPACITY. A higher capacity keeps more hot water ready. It doesn't change the temperature of the water at your taps.

What the app shows
In the Cala app, the Forecast on the Home screen shows We're still learning your patterns while Cala learns. Underneath, a countdown tells you how many days are left until forecasting is available.
After about 30 days, the Forecast shows Cala's plan for heating your water.
"Predictive Control Temporarily Paused"
If your hot water use has been too variable for Cala to predict well, the Forecast shows Predictive Control Temporarily Paused. Cala switches to standard heating so you keep getting hot water. When your usage settles down, predictive heating starts again on its own. You don't need to do anything.
Need more hot water while Cala learns?
- For a one-off, like a house full of guests, use Boost for extra hot water.
- If you're running short more often, raise your Cala's capacity. See Not enough hot water? Capacity and predictive controls.
