Cala uses all this data to run a predictive algorithm  – on the water heater itself – that sets a heating plan for how much water to heat, how fast, and when. It continually updates the plan, too, so it takes into account your most recent hot water use and new information.

THE RIGHT HEATING SPEED FOR THE RIGHT MOMENT

Using its variable speed compressor, Cala adjusts how fast it heats the water – slower for higher efficiency or faster to produce more hot water. Cala also has two electric heating elements to provide extra heating capacity during periods of unexpected or unusually high hot water demand.

SMART HOT WATER STORAGE AND DELIVERY

Cala automatically increases the tank temperature to prepare for high hot water demand, when energy prices are low, to synchronize with home solar systems and batteries, or before a potential outage. Cala then blends hot water from the tank with cold water from outside the tank via its mixing valve. The result is up to 50% more usable hot water at a consistent, safe delivery temperature.
