Answer: The refrigerator.
Gerhard lives in a 2,700-square-foot home with his family of five (including three kids ages 8, 9, and 10). Between showers, dishes, and endless loads of laundry, their Cala gets a heavy workout. But unlike traditional systems, Cala learns and adapts to optimize around your daily rhythms so you can use less energy and spend less on your bill.
The proof is in the data - based on Gerhard’s circuit-level SPAN smart panel:
- Cala: 53.6 kWh (1.73 kWh day)
- Refrigerator: 62.3 kWh (2 kWh day)

That means Cala used about 14% less electricity than the refrigerator while meeting the hot water needs of a family of five!
Water heating is one of the biggest—and often least visible—energy demands in a home. When it consumes less electricity than the refrigerator, its efficiency becomes much easier to see.
Thank you to Gerhard and his family for sharing their data and giving us a glimpse of their Cala.
